Rockin’ the May days

21 May 2008 In: Random Thoughts

How is everyone doing?  Yes, I’ve not been around for a bit - and sadly the three projects we’ve got selected have been sadly neglected.  So I’m planning on getting back on track and getting our three site projects up and running and see where it takes me and posting about it as I go.

After getting the comment from Chris in the previous post - I am looking into creating a forum here so we can discuss each project as we go along.  I think the problem has been that there isn’t a central location for our information and it’s rather higgly-piggly all over the place in the posts.

So in the next day or two I’ll have the forum up and running here and we can get the ideas flowing!

Well this has slowed down

Well, it’s nearing the end of April and I didn’t even announce this month’s topic… but then again - since it’s the 18th and no one has yet to mention the fact - I’m figuring that everyone else is pretty busy to even bother with this.

Me included… right now that is.  I still think doing the monthly challenges is a great idea.  Especially if you’re looking to try new niche markets, trying to flip a site, or just to learn more about affiliate marketing and how SEO works and all that jazz to get your site going…

I’m kind of bummed.

Maybe if you’ve still got this site in your RSS reader - you could share with me what would make this site more interesting - are you looking for more relevant content… different ways to participate, etc.  Any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate.

Niche Two: Real Estate

Well thanks to everyone out there who voted, it looks to be that our next niche to cover for the month of March is Real Estate. Sounds a bit daunting doesn’t it! How on earth are we going to get going on this niche.

Well I have some ideas and I’m going to share with you how I’m going try tackling this subject and am looking towards getting a few $$ rolling in.

My Real Estate site I was thinking of doing something about foreclosures. I’m not sure how this will fly - but I’ve seen several programs being offered through Commission Junction. So I thought I might give that a try.

Another option to try is going through as an Ebay affiliate and listing houses for sale from there on my site. I’m thinking I could encorporate the two - and that way I’ll have fresh looking content on my site with the feed from Ebay and offer some nice CPA offers on the rest of the site.

I’m looking to make this as legitimate looking as possible - with privacy, faq, etc pages on the site. I’m looking for a more professional look with good content on the site. After I’ve built it, my next step is trying to market it. First stop keywords to base the content around.

I have to admit Real Estate isn’t a passion of mine so this should be a bit of a challenge, a fun one - because I’ll be learning as I go, but it’s definitely going to need a swift kick to get me going on this one.

So far I’ve got my domain - and a base for the template I’ll be using for it.

As anyone started on their Real Estate site?

Silence is Golden

28 Feb 2008 In: Niche One: Health Related

Well, it’s been pretty quiet around here for a couple of weeks, so the big question to ask is… how is everyone doing with their first site?

Well, for me - where do I start!  I had my site, dusted it off - realized it needed major help and I’ve mentioned what I was going to do.  What I’ve accomplished this month… um, half a new theme for the site.  Yes, that’s what I’ve managed to do - I’ve got the psd file… and it’s half done.

Sad, yes.  Reality, yes.  I’m just going to take a stab that most of you are probably sitting in the same boat - or just sitting on the sideline here waiting to see what miracles we can pull off and get some information, that works - that’s real and isn’t just a bunch of crap.

Well, I know it takes hard work - and loads of patience.  I’ve not really done either with this health related site.  It’s still sitting there, waiting for some attention.  I’ve just been consumed with other projects, that are currently bringing in a bit of extra money.  So it’s really hard to neglect that part in place of this - which is currently not making me any money (but has the potential to) - it’s just bad timing.  Or maybe just crappy planning on my part.

So there you go - 1/2 a psd template for my new site.  I’m thinking 2 days isn’t enough time to get done what needs to for this site, so on top of the new site for March - I’ll be doubling it up with this site.  I now have to start planning my time accordingly.  Which isn’t always so easy with a full-time job and family… but damn it I’m going to try.

So there are a couple days left to get your votes in on what topic we’ll be picking next to work on.

It’s been a bit quiet around these parts, as I’m sure we’re all busy with our projects and other bits and bobs that we’re doing to make some extra cash online and never mind the fact that we all have lives off the computer too!  So I thought I’d drop a quick line to see how everyone is doing with their niche sites?  Care to share what you’re working on?  Topics?  Anything?

I’ll give you a quick run-down of what I’m working on.  I have a pilates site that I’ve not done much with in over a year.  I know Pilates hasn’t gone out of style and every once in a while I get a sale from the list of things I have on the site.  So the interest is there - I just have to focus on adding relevent content to the site, up-to-date product listings and give the site a face-lift to the look.  I don’t like it and I don’t think it does me any favours when it comes to selling things from it.  It’s so 2006 - haha!

Currently I’m a bit behind on the schedule I’d set up for myself with the site, but I’m starting this week to get the keyword list together, write some articles and revamp the theme for the site.  I’m using WordPress to move the site along - only because I understand WordPress and I am for the most part over the learning curve for that CMS.

… your turn!
